        簡報大綱

Stephen Su, General Director of IEK, was invited to share “Taiwan’s Manufacturing
Development and Outlook 2016” at the Economics Seminar hosted by the British Office. In this presentation, Stephen talked about Taiwan’s manufacturing industries’ clusters and their 2015 performance, including revenues and value-added by sector. He also explained Taiwan’s national innovation system consisted of The industry-academia-research institute technology networks where research institutes like ITRI plays an important part of leveraging spin-offs to foster new industry development. Past success story of “0-1-N” including IC industry as a result of ITRI sending researchers to RCA and eventually starting a series of semiconductor spin-off companies including UMC, TSMC, VIS and others.

From 2011 to 2015, the overall manufacturing industry has grown slowly in terms of revenues, however, the overall value-added has steadily been improved from 21.9% to 24.8%. Overall manufacturing industry’s outlook for 2016 continues to be cautiously positive. Taiwan with complementary strengths should be suitable for economic collaboration with UK. Innovation partnership to support R&D for business should be considered in addition to economic trade.

        Presentation Outline:

        • Taiwan’s Industrial Structure and Development
        • 2016 Manufacturing Industry Outlook
        • Conclusion
